The Changing of the Seasons from Lughnasadh to Autumn Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere
Tailltiu and Lugh pass the torch to Macha as we walk together towards the time of Autumn Equinox. The wheel of the year gently guides us west as we descend into the darker time of the year. This westerly direction on the Irish Wisdom Wheel shifts our focus to our ancestors, be that our ancestral lineage or the ancestry that we feel connected to. Honouring all those who have gone before us and all who will live after us.
Equinox calls us to return to balance by showing us how to honour equal night and equal day, outwith and within. The pendulum must return to balanced equilibrium as the starting and ending point. What is out of balance will be highlighted throughout this season which is our invitation to create the necessary space to come back into balance.
The westerly direction is also the place of the setting sun. Night-time. Darkness. Endings. Death of the day that we have just lived creating space for the new day to eventually dawn. Honour this time of endings by allowing what needs to go to go.
Celebrate Autumn Equinox this 2025 in ceremony with Eimear Stassin from The Irish Wisdom School as your guide.
Macha
~ She who could run faster than any horse in Ireland ~
~ Macha of many faces ~
The very utterance of Her name sends chills down the spines of the men of Ulster for She, Macha, cast a spell upon them that would last for 9 generations and echoes across Ireland to this day.
Gifted she was, yet humble too for she did not want her immense and otherworldly gifts to be spoken aloud or shared. It was forbidden by her. For she knew that her sacred gifts should be protected by silence and held sacred in trust.
Macha’s fate awaited her when her vow of secrecy was broken by somebody so dear to her from her inner circle. But she had the last word in retaliation and yes, in vengence.
And whatever happened to Macha’s twins?
Find out what happens to Macha and her twins in a retelling of this story by Eimear including Eimear’s experiences walking upon these sacred lands; what rose up within her as teachings to share with you now.
Emain Macha - Navan Fort
